Daxos the Returned

All the new enemy colored commanders look awesome! I am a huge fan of the new Orzhov Commander, Daxos the Returned. Having just left Theros, being able to pump out enchantment creatures for three mana seems crazy!

Let us know on Twitter who your favorite Commanders are with #MTGC15!

Fellowship Gamer Award

At the end of the Round Robin tournament, everyone will place a private vote for the player who demonstrated tremendous sportsmanship throughout the four weeks. This could be someone who took losses extremely well, won with class, gave insightful tips on how to play a matchup or maybe lent cards to someone else in need.

The player who wins this award receives a booster box of Battle for Zendikar!

Additional prizes will be awarded for Honorable Mentions!

Tie-breakers

To determine the Top 4 cleanly, the following tie-breakers will be used:

  • Head-to-Head matchup
  • Most game wins (throughout tournament)
  • Fewest game losses (throughout tournament)
  • Fellowship Gamer votes

If no winner can be determined (unlikely!), a playoff match will ensue.

Top 4 Matches

The Top 4 will consist of best of three games. You will have access to your opponents' decklist.

Questions?

Check our FAQ about this League.

We've got a new Twenty Sided Standard League starting up. Here are some frequently asked questions about it!

What if I can’t make every session?

It’s ok to miss a session! You can have a friend fill in for you for that week. If you cannot find a substitute, you will receive a loss for each of your matches that week.

One caveat is the final session of the league. If you miss that session and would otherwise advance to the Top 4, your spot will be awarded to the next in line.

Are these matches sanctioned?

Due to this unique tournament and session structure, sessions will be sanctioned as casual. Seasonal Planeswalker points will not be awarded.

What Rules Enforcement Level (REL) will you use?

Despite being sanctioned as casual, we will be treating each match as though it is Competitive REL.

This league is meant to be competitive (yet FRIENDLY!) and most importantly as real-world testing against a wide variety of decks.

Wait, I can win a box for being nice to fellow Magic players?!

Yes! At Twenty Sided Store we firmly believe that being competitive and being friendly are NOT mutually exclusive. We want to tangibly reward being nice to community members!

Standard?! I want [insert format]!

We know! We have a lot of public play event ideas in the queue. Standard is the most accessible competitive format and is the easiest way for us to get unique ideas like this off the ground.

You can always book the space on virtually any night of the week to organize your own game night!

Turbo - Charged for Glory (1982)

From the land of obscure New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) comes Turbo's 7", Charged for Glory. It's pretty typical late 70s, early 80s metal that came out of the UK. Relatively light distortion and slow tempo by today's metal standards, it was pretty groundbreaking stuff 30+ years ago.

As a teenager, I read liner notes and interviews with headlining 80s thrash bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Exodus and always saw references to NWOBHM and how they wouldn't exist without those bands. Finding the major bands' albums, a la the Monsters of Rock, was never a problem. Finding tapes of NWOBHM bands WAS tough, especially if you were a 14 years old and in New Mexico like me.

Monsters of Rock 1988

In a time before YouTube, Google, MP3s (and to an extent, CDs) - besides Iron Maiden, NWOBHM was a total mystery to me until the advent of college and The Internet. Fortunately, it's 2015 and music is much easier to find!

If you like this, I recommend checking out Aragorn's 1981 Black Ice.

Enjoy!

About Metal Monday

Luis discovered metal sometime while in Catholic middle school - born of part rebellion and some incurable urge to hear as many palm muted low e-strings as possible - metal became an obsession of his as a teenager.

Metal Monday's is our chance every week to headbang with all of you (if that's your thing).
