D&D Encounters : Escaping the Arrow - Session Recaps

Session 1

Entry by Leo Jenicek

Except from the Journal of Lord Gil-Thalion

Date… That’s bit of mystery at present, as I do seem to be escaping from a bally odd prison. Ormanel, normally I would be narrating my exciting adventures to you, and you’d be putting a bit of panache on the proceeding, as if my adventurer were not as adventurous as adventures should be! (Hmmm… Perhaps you were right, this writing is dashedly difficult! Well, I’ll give it the old “What Ho!” and press on.)

D&D Encounters : War of Everlasting Darkness : Sessions 5 - 8 Recap

Session 5 Recap Raffle Winner is Rich Stein

Entry 1 : by Wesley Rose

Sometimes the choices we make are not nearly as black and white as we would be led to believe. I was given this curse in an act of villainy, but if I can use it to sway the battle between darkness and light, even though I cannot enjoy the latter, I will do all my immortal body will allow me.

I am a product of darkness, but I fight not for it.

-Hamilton Moor
Quoted some years after the War of Everlasting Darkness

From the shoulder of my charge, I beheld the great siege of Mithral Hall. Behind the sounds of marching patrols, our traveling band could hear a solitary horn beckoning the enemy troops toward action. The
young Locke has come to fully embrace the flux of his lycanthropy curse and used it to great advantage as we attacked the closest commander tent. Having retrieved a map and burning the place down, we destroyed the accursed horn before making our way toward one of the “secret” entrances to the Hall.

Session 2 Recap Raffle Winner is Leo Jenicek!

Entry 1: by Daniel Alicea

*The following is an excerpt taken from the second entry of Andrest Locke’s Journal detailing his exploits during the War of Ever Lasting Darkness. Late Spring, 1484 DR.

…They screamed and spat in our faces as they pushed the three of us to our seats. The challenger sets himself down into the stony, arena pit. I see the signs of savagery all over – blood on the walls; crunched bones and skulls detail the dark-shaded floor. Standing opposite of Rangar in the pit was a scaly angry reptile: a drake. One of his eyes were missing, the other shut closed and scarred. It was blind, yet I had the feeling it could smell out its victim.

Entry 2 : by Rich Stein

While scholars across the realms are still piecing together much of the details of what we now know as the War of Everlasting Darkess, one archaeological find has become a wealth of information. In the ruins of modest Temple of Kelemvor located within the Glimmerwood (exact location unknown) a collection of letters were discovered. The correspondences are all addressed to one Father Arneston, believed to be the high priest of the temple, and also a ranking member of the Order of Doomguides. The letters are penned by a young Paladin in this order, one Valara Solrei, who provides unprecedented insight into the events leading up to the War of Everlasting Darkness…

Greetings Father Arneston,

I write this to you from a well-kept room in the Whistling Stag Inn, in Quaevarr. I am sure you know of it well, it is not more than a few days journey. I followed the rumors of a restless spirit back to this village and while the rumors held true, what I found went far beyond the mere presence of an undying soul. The specter was himself once a knight, a paladin perhaps, of the long dead god of guardians, Helm.

… and the tide of battle changed… the adventurers joining forces with the goblins who stood against them under the scourge of their drow captors… a single-word battle cry uniting them… MURDAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

ADVENTURE RECAP:
Our heroes braved crossing a bridge that spanned a web-covered and seemingly bottomless cavern, faced off against a band of drow and their goblin slaves, and searched the hollowed-out stalactite known to dwellers of the Underdark as the Demonspur. Another bridge connected the stalactite to the adjacent caverns of the Underdark, which have led the adventurers to the gates of a Zadzifeirryn outpost — the first stop on their way to the home of Valan Jaelre and his drow followers.

Who’s overly excited about tackling a recap mailer for the community this week? — THIS GUY!

ADVENTURE RECAP:
Our heroes navigated their way through trapped passageways as they descended into the Underdark, only to find that they’d walked themselves into a trap! A large group of drow got the jump on the adventurers, and Valan Jaelre himself made an appearance (albeit a cowardly one from behind the safety of a sealed portcullis). After skillfully dispatching the ambush, our heroes were ported off for a shopping spree and info-exchange with the Svirfneblin members of MURDA. Returning to their original place in the Underdark, they pushed forward after deciding that Khara and Tharinel must not be returning. Before long, they are confronted by the Jaelre Elite Guard, a carefully selected strikeforce of House Jaelre darlings (who packed a bit of a wallop). Mopping the floor with those punks, the adventurers found a secret passage from the dead end cavern and ventured on; pondering on the ominous statements made by the Elite Guard that Khara and Tharinel had been captured…

Khara and Tharinel were whisked away Elminster at the most inopportune moment, and our heroes were left to stand alone against Valan, a powerful wizard.
