Adventure Writing Story Structure

In this three part workshop, we will identify story structures specific to roleplaying games and interactive fiction. We will work our way through the worldbuilding process to discover different perspectives. We will have an opportunity to create our own stories and learn how to use story structure to design our own desired experiences. Together we will prep, plot, and plan to hopefully walk away with a game ready to run.

Session 1 | Identifying Story Structure

In this course we take a look at an adventure module, explore optional paths the story can take, and create a basic story structure derived from the existing content.

Session  2 | Worldbuilding Story Structure

In this course we will start with an adventure hook and create our own story. We will explore different types of story structures and discuss how different structures can be used to create different experiences.

Session 3 | Story Structure Beats

In this course we will take a prepared story structure, explore the main through line and story beats, and discuss how timing and pacing play an important role in plotting your session or campaign.
